Simple guidelines to help you plan, write, and deliver a confident wedding speech.
Traditionally the first speech is from the father of the bride, followed by the groom and finally the best man. This isn’t set in stone—and the bride may also wish to speak.
Aim for a concise speech with one or two personal stories or funny moments. Keep it warm, sincere, and to the point.
Light humour is great, but avoid jokes at someone’s expense. Keep it kind and avoid anything personal that could cause embarrassment.
Most wedding speeches run 5–7 minutes. Try to memorise the structure and key lines—even simple cue cards help you stay natural.
Make sure to thank and mention the key people. Include both the bride and groom, and consider acknowledging bridesmaids and close family.
